I was admitted to Samphire ward Kings Lynn after a mental break down. At first it was a frightening place to be because of my paranoia and psychosis but slowly with the help from a few members of staff and medication I started to eat properly, get involved with activities, and socialise with others and get regular exercise! I particularly enjoyed getting to know some of the patients and felt towards the end of my stay at Samphire that I had made some life long friends. I'm not sure if they did but ..I definitely did! Even some of the staff that I owe so much to!
Before l left Samphire ward I asked if I could go back and do some volunteering work to A, give a little back to the NHS, and B catch up with some important people in that period of my life!
I've tried to contact the ward and left messages but no return call. I've tried adding nurses on Facebook to be deleted.
I'm not upset, just disappointed, that out of the 50 plus staff at Samphire there's nobody who is allocated to follow up patients..even if it's just a " Hi how are you". I think if I had been discharged and living on my own, the feeling of rejection would of put me straight back to where I was.
I'm lucky I have a supportive family but I'm sure many leave that ward feeling abandoned.
"Lack of follow up"
