"Colonoscopy treatment"

About: Raigmore Hospital / Gastroenterology

(as the patient),

I was comfortable and relaxed throughout the colonoscopy treatment and preparation for it thanks to the attention and care of all staff.

I was still partially sedated when I filled in the form while I was waiting to be collected. I would like to amend my response.

Despite asking for advice I was given no information on diet following procedure - I had to look it up online to discover I should only be eating the foods I had been told I could eat before the procedure. Very glad I thought to check before I started eating, not everyone would think of this, I think an information leaflet of some kind would be useful.

Unfortunately I was less happy with being nagged about why I hadn't left the hospital. I'm not entirely sure why they were so cross about me not being picked up. My problems were, firstly I had no signal to contact my pickup for about half an hour, then as I was still slightly sedated, I only told him ' I'm ready when you are' forgetting to tell him that I was coming out through the main entrance, rather than outpatients, where he had dropped me off. As I was an outpatient this seemed to be the natural choice. He therefore spent a considerable time, first at outpatients, then looking around to find where the main entrance was located. Every 5 minutes of this time a nurse came in asking why I hadn't left yet - in what I found a cross rather than sympathetic way. On one of the numerous occasions that I stuck my head out to reception looking for my driver there was someone there who offered to take my phone to give him directions. I dare say I'd still be there, being told off, if not for her assistance.

Incidentally, despite arriving at the hospital on time for my appointment I ended up being 15 minutes late reaching the correct area, and that was with a guide the whole way.
