"Excellent care"

About: Antrim Area Hospital / Ward A3 Respiratory Causeway Hospital / Accident & Emergency Northern Ireland Ambulance Service / Emergency ambulance response

(as a carer),

Our son is a young man who has Down Syndrome, respiratory failure and a tracheostomy. He became unwell in December and had respiratory  problems and low sats.I phoned 999 and was reassured by the Controller during our wait for the Ambulance crew.

He was taken at once to A&E in Causeway where he was taken straight away into resus and given immediate treatment and excellent care. He was then taken to Antrim Area hospital where he stayed for three days until he was admitted into the Resp Ward. He was discharged a few days later.  They cared for all of us and that made a stressful situation much easier.

At the end of December he became unwell again and was taken by ambulance to Causeway and was taken again into resus  where he was treated again.

He stayed in A&E until the start of January and was discharged home.

Good afternoon susan1960

I would firstly like to thank you for taking the time to share your story on Care Opinion, particularly with NIAS, noting of the quick response time. In such situations this is a critically important factor that has impact upon overall recovery and it gives great encouragement for such to be made evident; I hope that this reflected upon your overall experience with NIAS and that such was of a satisfactory level on both occasions.

I hope that your son made a healthy recovery and wish him the best.
