"Felt like a VIP"

About: Victoria Hospital / Accident & Emergency Victoria Hospital / Radiology Victoria Hospital / Rapid Access and Discharge

(as a relative),

My husband arrived at A&E Victoria, Kirkcaldy on  Friday night of all nights, with a suspected stroke. We were dropped at A&E where the ambulances go, with not realising you need to go in via the main entrance. A kindly paramedic immediately 'cut" us through the hospital to save us walking round.

We got checked in by a lovely receptionist who reassured us. He was triaged within 10 mins and through to a cubicle about an hour and bit later.  Richard the nurse explained he'd run an ECG ready for the doctor, Alex. Everything was explained, tests done and medication given. He was advised an urgent neurologist appointment would be given within 2 weeks. We left feeling reassured. Every member of staff we encountered being friendly and informative.

Having left hospital Friday midnight, he got a phone call Monday morning, to go to Ward 8, RADA/TIA Hot Clinic. Amazing service and it didn't stop there. Well the only word to describe my feeling after this appointment is 'gobsmacked'! From the minute, we arrived, we feel like VIP's. Nurse Anne took us through what would happen, explaining everything (as we had no idea what would be happening). We then met Dr Cvoro. She was direct which made me laugh (when my husband got told off for his lifestyle). However it was done in a good humoured way and not a schoolteachery way, so much so he's taken it all on board! He then got sent to x-ray for a brain scan and ultrasound of his neck and we seemed to be VIPs there too!  We then came back upstairs for a heart trace and blood tests, this time seeing Nurse Angela who was also chatty and friendly. Then we saw Dr Cvoro for the results of everything and an action plan/meds. The appointment today and all this teamwork was done in just under 2 hours. It was absolutely phenomenonal. All staff were kind and reassuring when it's such a scary time. Any prressures of work were never revealed to us and it just felt friendly and is if we were the only ones there.   We can't thank the team enough though in saying that, hopefully we don't see you again! (Because of the treatment we got, obviously!) Thank you, you should be proud of your team - you need to be on TV showing how things can be run. Thanks again for such brilliant service, appreciated.

Hi JessieK

Thank you for your very positive feedback. We appreciate you taking the time to let us know about your experience, and are pleased that we have been able to reassure during such a unsettling time for you both.

I have passed your feedback on to Angela and Doctor Cvoro from the RADA unit.

Keep well, and thank you once again.

Anne
