"Excellent care and treatment for my dad"

About: University Hospital Ayr / General Medicine

(as a relative),

My dad was admitted to University Hospital, Ayr in December after becoming very unwell with sepsis. After several days in CAU, he was transferred to station 6 where he stayed for approximately 10 days until he was discharged in early January.

As you can imagine, this was a very worrying time for our family, and there were moments when we thought he would never leave hospital. The team on Station 6 were superb, and although you could see that the pressures were affecting some of the staff, in the main they did not let this affect their interactions with the patients.

As an ex-ward sister (who trained in Ayr many moons ago), I found it  reassuring to hear the Station 6 Sister discussing the patients in her ward, knowing them all by name and also being up to date with the details of their conditions. It was a comfort to see how she ran her ward and interacted with her team and also with the patients themselves as well as  with us as a family. The ward was clean and tidy and the care and attention that my dad received was excellent.

I would like to mention that the Healthcare Assistants on this ward are fantastic and did a brilliant job of caring for my dad while he was an inpatient with them.

I would also like to mention the amazing housekeepers who made sure that he had his drinks just how he liked them when they came round with their trolley.

We are all aware of the current pressures on the NHS but it is so reassuring to know that teams on wards such as Station 6 are working their fingers to the bone every day to provide such good care for their patients. It is not lost on me that we could be in a very different situation as a family had it not been for the excellent care and treatment my dad received in this ward.

A huge thanks to Dr McGowan and his team for the care and treatment delivered and for getting my dad to the point that he could actually be back at home with my mum. We know he has a long road ahead but we are so thankful to all involved who made it possible for him to make it through this and be back with his family.

Thank you Station 6 and the wonderful team with Dr McGowan, we will be forever grateful for the care and treatment you have provided.

Dear de la plage,

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your healthcare experience within Station 6 at University Hospital Ayr via Care Opinion.

I am delighted to hear that your dad received such kind, professional and compassionate care from all of our staff.

Your kind words have been shared with the Teams who cared for your dad to give recognition for their exemplary care and treatment and in particular with the staff you have mentioned. It is particularly encouraging for our staff to receive such positive feedback, at a time of unprecedented challenge for our Services.

Thank you once again for taking the time to acknowledge your care experience.

Kind Regards,

Morag
