"Unhappy with care from GP, ED and 3 month wait for urgent scan results"

About: GPs in Shropshire Royal Shrewsbury Hospital / Accident and emergency Royal Shrewsbury Hospital / Neurology

(as a service user),

The symptoms I have are now debilitating and causing me to have altered vision and hearing, alongside significant head pain and altered limb sensations. I’ve been advised by three separate clinicians now that these symptoms are consistent with cerebral swelling or brain tumour. I have been told it will be 14 weeks for results following an urgent MRI head (which took place on December 19th), I have heard nothing from the GP in the meantime and so make an appointment online to have this cancelled twice, with no thought seemingly given as to the context of why this appointment was made.

I have seen several GPs, many of whom have been dismissive, the nurse practitioner told me over the phone I had a brain tumour and to rush to ED, and another referred me for an MRI… yet no specialist. Another GP told me it was in my head.

The treatment I’ve received has been almost nonexistent. It is incredible to think that these symptoms have only just warranted an MRI with no alternative medicine tried, nor a referral to a specialist. It is also entirely inappropriate for a GP to think they can manage any results of an MRI head. I have asked now several times for a referral to be told no.

I have attended at ED however am told to go back to my GP. This is my only option at getting some answers for symptoms that are terrifying, especially considering what has been said to me by both the nurse practitioner and the staff at ED. I am scared I have a brain tumour, am getting more and more unwell and cannot even access care to do anything about it. I am terrified that I will die.
