My mum was admitted to Roxborough House from Craigavon Area Hospital after a fall at home. We were all a bit apprehensive about her going to Roxborough, as we grew up near it and always considered it a long term care home. I called at the home the morning my mother was advised she was leaving hospital, and I have to say we were reassured from that moment on.
I spoke to Claire, the manager, who was so helpful, professional and reassuring. I found out all I needed to know about what was going to happen and I was able to then tell my mum it wasn't going to be long term. This eased my mother's mind and started a residential journey for recuperation that will end tomorrow, 2 weeks exactly from my mum going in to Roxborough House.
Her time at Roxborough has been a very positive experience and one she wishes to thank everyone for from the bottom of her heart. She has had to wear a back brace during her time there, but she said to me tonight that she was looked after to such a high standard, and everything from the quality of the food (a big thank you to Tommy and the rest of the kitchen staff) to the new friendships she has made with other patients has given her the confidence to go home now and finish her recovery.
She has been overwhelmed and humbled at the high level of care and support she has received from all of the carers (so many thanks for so many people, with personal thanks to Eileen and Liz but huge gratitude for all the carers and those who give out the tablets). There is one carer who I have to highlight, and that is Cormac. He is the first person I met on the evening when I went in to see my mum. He was kind, professional and so caring and supportive of my mum during her stay. Saying goodbye to him tonight was actually very difficult, and my mum thinks he is one of the kindest and caring young men she has ever met.
So as my mum prepares to leave tomorrow, she has definitely been set up to the highest standards to finish her recovery at home. She will leave Roxborough House stronger both mentally and physically than when she went in. Thank you so much for my mother's amazing care and she wishes everyone well.
