"Too many patients, too few staff"

About: Crosshouse Hospital / Accident & Emergency

(as a carer),

Referred by the GP. The wait was over 4 hours which was fine for me, carer, but hard for the patient in their eighties. The first consultation was held in a visitors room as there was no room inside. Eventually he was admitted and had to sit upright in a chair in front of nurses station. Several people were in the same position. It was nearer 10-11 pm before a bed was found and situated in corridor between two other beds.

The care was good which is surprising under the circumstances.

Too many patients, too few staff. A disgrace in my view.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I am so sorry that the patient you were caring for endured such a lengthy wait, in an environment which was clearly far from ideal. Please be assured that this is not the person-centred care that we aim to provide. The current situation is being monitored at the highest level of our organisation and we are doing all that we can to improve waiting times and minimise delays.

It was reassuring to hear that, despite being cared for in a non-standard setting, the care the patient received was good.

With all best wishes,

Linda
