"Knee replacement surgery"

About: Inverclyde Royal Hospital / Trauma & orthopaedics

(as the patient),

I was admitted for knee replacement surgery last month at Inverclyde hospital Greenock ward K North.  This was elective surgery and I have been waiting a long time for this.  I have never been to this hospital before (not local to me) and from the minute I walked in the door until I left I was treated with total respect, kindness and care.  I had to check at on the ground floor at the A&E reception and the woman checking me in wished me a speedy recovery and was hopeful my operation went well.  For sure they were short staffed particularly in the ward but this was not reflective in the care from the nursing, medical and ancillary staff.

There was a delay in taking me to theatre but once I was down everything went very smoothly.  After my surgery was taken back to the ward and given tea and toast which was delicious.  I was then able to mobilise with the help of the physiotherapist who was very encouraging.  I was discharged less than 24 hours following my surgery and that was due to the great support from the staff.

A special thank you goes to my surgeon Mr Abu-Rajab and all the staff on ward K North,
