I was reminded the other day of amazing care I received on the post-natal ward at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary in November 2021, by one person in particular - Lorna. I’m sorry I can’t remember her job title but she worked on ward 211 at the Simpson Maternity hospital.
I unfortunately didn’t have a great experience with the doctors and midwives on the ward itself for various reasons which was extremely distressing, but Lorna really took care of me when I felt so low and so exhausted from everything that had happened to me and my daughter following a difficult birth.
I had to stay on the ward for a few days after an emergency c-section and then phototherapy for jaundice, then had to be readmitted after being discharged.
Lorna could tell that I was distressed and struggling and arranged for me to stay in a side room. She kept me company and fed my baby bottles while I expressed in the middle of the night, and she reassured me when I was worried about my baby. She brought me cups of tea and offered a kind ear to listen. I’ll always be grateful to Lorna for the kindness she showed me and my baby, she is one in a million.
