I had to attend Airedale A & E for treatment for what I suspected to be a rupture of an Achilles tendon and, knowing it to be a busy hospital and having "enjoyed" the benefits of the former A & E at Otley (which was a much quieter institution), I had expectations of a long and impersonal event. My concerns where almost entirely misplaced as, whilst after a very speedy involvement with triage I had to wait a little longer than I would have hoped before receiving treatment, the care and attention afforded to me was both professional and caring, and the over all time spent was far less than I had feared. It may be unnecessary to say that my subsequent appointments, through "Out-patients" (with a Consultant on both occasions), where of a high standard (as I consider the standards set throughout the NHS as generally of a high order), but what marked each was the professional, friendly and helpful interaction I enjoyed, both with the Consultant and with all others I met (both nursing and support staff). Finally, after removal of the cast I was required to wear from some weeks, I was genuinely amazed and greatly appreciative of the efforts made, on my behalf, to arrange for me to commence physiotherapy, as early as was practicable and at the most convenient location for me. I know that the NHS is under intense pressure from several quarters, and I do accept that Airedale may not always achieve such high standards as I experienced, but it is clear to me that this is a hospital which is trying its best to deliver on its commitments to the community it serves.
