"We had excellent care in a very busy environment"

About: Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary / Accident & Emergency NHS 24 / NHS 24 (111 service)

(as a parent/guardian),

We visited your A&E with our daughter (after ringing 111) we were advised to head to A&E straight away.

We were triaged by a lovely nurse called Abbie, she put us at ease and we were seen very quickly. We were than taken to a cubicle where we seen a senior doctor who was brilliant, he put both my daughter and myself at ease immediately, explaining what he was doing and why at every step of the way, luckily we were allowed home in the early hours of the morning 

Sadly we had to rush her back up the next day, it was almost midnight and they were very busy but again they were amazing with us. Treatment took longer this time but great care was given to my daughter and again she was kept relaxed and calm until we were able to come home 5 or 6 hours later,

I know people moan at waiting times and lack of staff but we had excellent care with staff working in a very busy environment, thank you again for all your care and compassion, my daughter is now much better x

I'm sorry to learn of your daughter's recent visits to A&E. I'm very pleased however to read that she is doing much better. That is great news.

Thanks for getting in touch with Care Opinion. The staff who cared for your daughter on both visits to A&E sound amazing. Its thoughtful of you to take the time to thank them. It sounds as though they not only put your daughter at ease, but also reassured you as a worried mum. I'm sure my colleagues within NHS Dumfries & Galloway will be absolutely delighted to see your post.

I see you made an initial call to 111 when we recognised your daughter needed onward care, therefore advised A&E attendance. Hi Macruby,

Thank you for providing feedback about your daughters recent visit to A&E. Please may I begin by apologising for the slight delay replying, posts such as yours are invaluable to us and ordinarily we would hope to have responded sooner.

I was so pleased to learn that the professionalism and dedication of the triage nurse Abbie and the senior doctor who attended you daughter during your first visit put your mind at ease though I was sorry to learn that you had to rush back to A&E the following day. It was heartening to learn that once again your daughter received exemplary care, leading to discharge five to six hours after arrival.

We are fortunate to have such committed and dedicated staff in Dumfries and Galloway and I know that when colleagues learn that the work they do is so highly valued, it reinforces the view that we are doing the best we can for the patients we care for on a daily basis. I will make sure that your positive feedback is shared with the team in A&E.
