"System does not work effectively"

About: North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust / NHS 111 (North West) Stepping Hill Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a service user),

We spent 4 hours trying to go through the 111 system to be told to come to the A & E Department at Stepping Hill Hospital, this was with my elderly father. 

The hospital at Macclesfield told us to come to see the Urologist as this service is not available there. We have been seen by the triage nurse no bloods or cannula cited.

The expected waiting time is 7 hours, sat in a chair all through the night which for my father and his problem is not acceptable to us. Observations have been taken x 3. I have been trying to get my father sorted from yesterday evening, it is now the following morning.

I believe the 111 system does not work effectively and too much time is wasted waiting for people to call back. When you are triaged at one hospital to be told to go to another this time is not taken into account.

I am sorry to read about your Father’s experiences with 111 and within the ED at Stepping Hill. The department and hospital was experiencing periods of significant demand and unfortunately this impacted waiting times, however, I will share your feedback with the team so they are aware and can action as appropriate.
