"Thank you for your kindness when my nana died"

About: Sunderland Royal Hospital

(as a relative),

I would like to say a huge thank you to the staff working on C31 in December on a night shift (I’m afraid I didn’t catch names). My nana was admitted to this ward where sadly she rapidly declined and passed away in the early hours of the morning.

One of the nurses on the ward had kindly spoken to me in a very calm manner (via telephone), in particular when I couldn’t process what was happening.

As I was travelling from Scotland and unable to make it to her before her passing, the staff on the ward had kindly allowed her body to remain in a resting environment where both me and my sister were able to spend time saying our goodbyes to her. The auxiliary/ care assistant had kindly made me a cup of tea too and checked to make sure that both me and my sister were okay.

I was also able to speak to the doctor that morning with no questions asked where he was able to explain the diagnosis in more detail. And again, thank you for taking your time to do that as I know you had to be called in to speak to me specifically.

Thank you ward C31.
