"Excellent care received"

About: Borders General Hospital / Accident & Emergency Borders General Hospital / General Medicine Borders General Hospital / Stroke Unit Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance

(as a relative),

My mum was admitted to Borders General Hospital at the start of December having had a stroke. I just wanted to commend the care my mum received throughout her journey.  From the First Responders (Martin & Leanne) who arrived at 1:00 am, Lisa, Drew and the student paramedic who took over mum’s care and transferred her to hospital with such care and compassion, the fantastic staff in A&E - sorry I did not catch all of their names but 2 that stood out were Euan & Dr Rachel - they looked after mum and I so well.   I cannot thank them enough, the night porters and the staff on Ward 5 where she was admitted around 4:30am. Every member of staff that night took great care of mum and offered me much needed support.

Mum continued making great progress whilst on ward 5 and the care and support was outstanding from Dr Jack, all nursing and support staff as well as the domestics and other staff members who work behind the scenes. A special mention must go to the physios and OTs who got mum up and mobilising and who gave her the confidence and encouragement to do what she needed to do to get home.

Mum was moved to the stroke unit after a week in ward 5 and again the staff here were so helpful and supportive.  Mum got discharged home on at the end of December and is doing amazing.  I am also a staff member of NHS Borders and I am proud to be writing about such a positive experience which I hope will be shared with those mentioned above as I cannot thank all the staff enough for how they responded and supported myself and my mum - each and everyone were outstanding.

Dear kitcj22

Thank you for sharing your experience. It was amazing to read that your mother received such good care at every step of what must have been a very scary journey.

I am so pleased to read that she is doing well.

If you would like me to pass on your kind words to the ambulance crew that attended your mother and have them commended may I ask that you contact our Patient Experience Team at sas.feedback@nhs.scot with your name, Care Opinion username, your mother's name and the date and address we attended.

I do hope that you and your mother are managing to enjoy this festive period.

Kindest regards

David

Dear kitcj22, Thank you so much for taking the time to feedback on the care your mum received during her stay in the BGH. I will share your feedback with the teams involved as it is very rewarding for them to hear such positive and kind comments. I am delighted to know that both you and your mum felt supported throughout her stay and that she is doing well at home.

Kind regards
