"A and E service"

Want to praise the staff in A and E last week. We had great care from fabulous staff. Although we had to wait around quite a bit on uncomfortable seating, we were very grateful for the standard of care received.

However, having treatment in a waiting room was not very comfortable for my daughter, who really should have been lying down due to her being a lot of pain and discomfort. This option was never offered. My daughter was never asked how she was feeling and she should have been treated in a bed, not as an inpatient, but certainly while she was being treated. She was already extremely unwell and this just did not help at all.

Thank you for taking the time to share your recent experience when you attended the Emergency Department at NMGH with your Daughter. It is reassuring to read that you found the staff to be caring and that your Daughter received the care she required.

I am sorry that the environment did meet your expectations. The hospital has experienced a very high volume of patients seeking care from our Emergency Department and on occasions that has meant that space has been limited.

I would like to apologise that at the time you and your daughter attended it was not possible to provide her care more comfortably and in private, I am sorry for any upset and distress this caused.

The hospital site team are reviewing what steps can be taken at times of high activity to ensure the patient experience is not compromised, your feedback will be shared with them.

I hope that your Daughter is feeling much better and thank you once again for taking the time to share your and her recent experience.
