"A big sister figure to chat to who was an experienced midwife"

About: Royal Alexandra Hospital / Special Needs in Pregnancy Team (SNIPS)

(as a service user),

Having suffered with PND after the birth of my first child, I discussed my anxiety around feeling the same during my pregnancy with baby no.2 and post birth.  My midwife offered me a referral to the Specialist Midwife Perinatal Mental Health team and I was assigned to Stephanie.

I cannot tell you what a fantastic support and service she provided, I described it to friends and family as having a big sister figure to chat to who was an experienced midwife - it felt very comforting yet so informative.  I’m so glad I took up the offer of this service, as I feel by taking preventative steps to make sure I was in the right space in terms of my mental health during my pregnancy, that I avoided PND post-birth, and managed to have the experience I wanted with baby no.2.

It’s invaluable to have someone check in with you and discuss from a physiological and medical standpoint any worries you may have and address them together as a team, and that’s exactly what Stephanie's done for me, she’s absolutely amazing at her job and I can’t thank her enough for helping me to navigate this journey.

Dear delphinusbd94

Thank you for taking time to let us know about the care you received from Stephanie and the MNPI service.

It was lovely to read that the referral from the community midwife leading to meeting Stephanie has made a real difference to your pregnancy and birth of baby No2 giving you the experience you were aiming for.

I will pass on your kind words to Stephanie who will be really delighted to hear that she made a your feel supported and comforted this time around.

May I wish you a happy time over the festive period

Best wishes

Elaine
