I attended a very busy A&E today with my daughter after an awful accident at home left her with some nasty cuts to her face and right around her eye. I arrived at A&E very panicked and upset, with my 18 month old daughter also understandable very upset. I was informed there was a 9 hour wait, however very quickly the lovely receptionist could see how stressed and upset I was (mostly due to fear of damage to my daughters actual eye). She was able to get me all checked in and said she would speak with triage staff for me. Less than 10 minutes later I was called for by a wonderful A&E consultant, he was so calming and kind and seen to my daughter immediately.
From the crazy busy-ness of the waiting area, to hearing calls to resus etc, I was very aware of how hectic the department was. I am a midwife within NHS GG&C so completely understand the issues at the moment with lack of staff etc. However, I have nothing but amazing things to say for all those who helped my daughter today so quickly. The woman on reception was so kind, the consultant who cleaned my daughters wounds and glued one of them as well as sending her for an X-ray was so unbelievably kind and never made me feel like I was taking up his time. As well as the lead nurse who assisted with the gluing.
I just want those staff on shift in RAH A&E to know how much their kindness towards my daughter and myself made a very traumatic event much better, they are fantastic!
"Fantastic A&E service"
