"Mixed experience of maternity care"

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Maternity care (Wards 47, 48 & 50)

(as a service user),

Staff in labour suite - amazing. Genuinely cared and wanted to help mentally and physically. Remained professional yet felt like a friend. I can't praise them enough.

However. Staff in post natal ward - awful. My fourth child and this was my worst experience. You know it's bad when you go to the day room for lunch and a HCA is openly vaping! Vaping on a ward full of new babies!

I felt like I was a burden to the staff and they didn't seem to mind showing it. I couldn't get out the place quick enough.

Dear snowtt79,

Thank you for taking the time to feedback on your experience here at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Maternity Unit and congratulations on the birth of your baby.

Thank you for your praise of the team in labour ward and I am delighted that you had professional and amazing care. I will ensure that your praise is fed back to the team in labour ward as they will be delighted.

I am truly sorry that your experience on the postnatal ward was awful and I apologise that you felt like a burden to the staff. Please be reassured that I will investigate and action your concerns immediately and ensure that our team are informed of you feedback.

I apologise that a member of the team was using a vape within the ward. This is against hospital guidance, and I will ensure that this is also investigated and put measures in place to ensure that this does not happen again.

We always aim to provide safe care for women and their babies, and I am disappointed that we were not able to provide a positive experience for you.

Please feel free to contact me directly if you would like to discuss this further.

Kind regards

Gaynor Bird

Interim Lead Midwife
