Rang to find out if could get an x-ray on a finger without prior admin and was told I could just walk in. Duly took time out to visit and was told by the Radiologist that walk in was no longer allowed since "about a month ago" and I needed an appointment which required a "note" from my GP. When I offered to call the GP there and then was told that it needed to be in writing since "more than my job's worth" to proceed without correct paperwork. So an afternoon wasted because somebody somewhere cannot define, implement and communicate a simple process. Please try to understand that i) it is not only healthcare professionals who lead busy lives with lots of responsibilities ii) average members of public (aka Mr and Mrs J Taxpayer) cannot be expected to be familiar with byzantine admin procedures I find this particularly ironic given recent stories about A&E capacity: In the circumstances I would have had no choice but to go there if there had been more urgency to my problem! It should not be difficult to set up a simple reliable process for this kind of thing that doesn't require taking a whole day out - sort it out please!
