"My brothers poor care at Manchester RI"

About: Manchester Royal Infirmary

(as a relative),

Following on from my brothers poor care at MRI his condition deteriorated and he died on ward 56 at the age of 56. He had underwent a transplant 2 months ago at MRI, suffered a post op infection in MRI, spent weeks on ITU and seemed to have stabilised. He was transferred back to a ward last week, but died in a side room, unbeknownst to staff.

To add insult to injury: his wife and son were told to attend urgently, but when they arrived, there were no staff around. After waiting, they entered his room to find a domestic mopping the floor and my brother apparently asleep in bed. When they approached, they found he was dead.

Staff eventually arrived and showed them to a side room, but it was another 20mins before a doctor arrived to confirm his death!!!

I appreciate the NHS is busy, but as a practising nurse specialist with 30 years experience,  I can only class the standards of care at MRI as appalling and inexcusable and platitudinous apologies and promises to improve are both meaningless and disingenuous.

I can only hope that highlighting these atrocious events will ensure no one else has to experience such shameful care and lack of communication.
