"Fantastic staff in a department under extreme pressure"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / Emergency Department

(as a relative),

My partner had been taken to A&E in an ambulance as a result of a serious accident at work. I have never seen the A&E reception as busy at it was on this day- there were absolutely no seats and upwards of 20 people standing.

I had to wait for a long time as the emergency ward was too full for visitors whilst he was waiting on multiple test and scan results. However, all of the reception staff (namely Ashley, the department manager) were extremely helpful and efficient in an environment that was undoubtedly exceptionally stressful.

Ashley came over and asked us to wait elsewhere (the hospital cafe), and come back to the department for regular updates on when we might be able to see him. This was extremely helpful for us, and stopped us having to make the waiting area even busier than it already was

The nurses in the emergency ward were also extremely helpful and were able to provide us with regular updates.

The staff were all polite and dealt with each patient quickly, which I thought was impressive as it was a very very stressful day in the department (for reasons outwith their control).

Thanks for all of your help on a day where we were very worried.

Dear VeryThankful,

Thank you for taking the time to share your recent experience as a relative, whilst your partner was being cared for within our Emergency Department. I am pleased to hear that you found our staff polite and supportive whilst working under very stressful conditions. I have passed on your comments to Ashley, our reception department manager, who was delighted to hear your comments. I will also share your comments with the rest of our department.

I hope your partner is recovering well following his injuries.

Best wishes,

Julie.
