"Son’s first visit to a&e."

About: Perth Royal Infirmary / Accident & Emergency

(as a parent/guardian),

My nearly 15 month old son had a terrible head laceration from falling and hitting it on the edge of the skirting board. As you can imagine very panicked mum and dad rushed him up to Perth Royal Infirmary (PRI) emergency department.

When we arrived we were greeted by friendly receptionist who took all our details, followed by lovely nurse who came to quickly assess our son and let us know that a nurse practitioner would be with us shortly to tend to his wound.

The department was very busy and we seen several ambulance come and drop more patients off plus the walk ins too, but we only waited no longer than 30mins and we’re seen by Senior Charge Nurse (SCN) Paula and the Health Care Assistant (HCA) working with her (I unfortunately didn’t catch her name) but we’re both so lovely, very calming and reassuring and great with my son. Popped on some glue with advice and we were all good to go!

My son then at home managed to split the wound back open, we called up where I spoke to Paula herself and she said to come back up and she would see us straight away. Went back up to the now extremely busy department and was taken straight away, my son was tended to for the second time with such care! They then even gave him a lovely Christmas present which cheered him right up!

I can’t imagine what it’s like working in such a busy and stressful environment but I can say the care provided even under these circumstances was outstanding.

Thank you again to these lovely health professionals for taking such great care of my boy, it means so much as you can imagine how precious he is to me.

I hope you all have a lovely Christmas x

Dear Graxb46,

Thank you so much for taking the time to post your positive experience with your son when you attended the Emergency Department. This is so much appreciated by the Nursing staff who have been working really hard to care for patients at this busy time.

I hope your son is recovering well and has a lovely Christmas

Mary Cumming
