"My visit to Royal Alexandria Hospital in Paisley"

About: Royal Alexandra Hospital / Gynaecology (Ward 32)

My gynaecology appointment was just after 7pm at night in winter and I got lost finding the clinic building in the dark as it was separate from the main Hospital and there were no signs for it on the road I came into the campus.

Having rushed to get there, the staff immediately made me feel relaxed and calm. They all introduced themselves in a warm and friendly manner. I was also anxious about the procedure I was going to have, but the gynaecologist, Dr Blair, explained all about it and reassured me. When I mentioned I was well overdue a smear test she said she could also do that at the same time, to save me having another speculum examination at a later date at my GP surgery.

Dr Blair carried out the procedures very professionally and in such a way as to keep any discomfort to a minimum, while Nikki the nurse, kept me relaxed throughout by talking about various things that acted as a distraction.... and it worked!

The appointment kept to time which was amazing considering this was so late in the day - I had expected the clinic to be running late at such an hour. Afterwards Nikki escorted me to the entrance and ensured I knew where the car park was.

The whole experience was very impressive from start to finish. The staff could not have been better and I am so appreciative of the service that they are offering, especially running these extra clinics to catch up with the backlog. I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to such a professional team and to NHS staff as a whole for the excellent work they do.

Dear Reassured Patient from Argyll

Thank you for sharing your feedback on Care Opinion.

Thank you very much for commenting on how well the gynaecology team met your needs during your recent clinic appointment at the Royal Alexandra Hospital. I am sorry you had difficulty finding the clinic but glad you received a warm welcome when you did.

We have been running additional clinics, some of which are obviously in the evenings and suit some patients better. The staff are all very experienced and appreciate that patients can be anxious about procedures and investigations. Ensuring patients are well informed is a priority and Nikki is an expert in distraction so I'm glad it worked for you!

I have shared your feedback with Dr Blair, Nikki and the team. They are delighted to receive this.

I hope you are doing well at this time and recovering from your procedure.

Best wishes

Isabel Traynor

Lead Nurse, Gynaecology
