"Outstanding care after emergency bowel surgery"

About: Victoria Hospital / Colorectal Unit Victoria Hospital / Surgical High Dependency Victoria Hospital / Theatres

(as the patient),

I would like to say a huge heartfelt thank you to Mr Proctor my consultant and the staff at SHDU and Ward 44 of the Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy for such outstanding surgical care, patience and support following my emergency bowel surgery.

As well as being a very skilled surgeon, Mr Proctor was always so empathetic, with a wonderful bedside manner. He fully explained everything in a professional but also very caring way. This reassured me that I was in very capable hands, I have so much gratitude and respect for him. He is amazing!

After a brief stay in SHDU, where the staff care and standards were excellent, I was transferred to Ward 44 for a long-term stay. This is a very large and busy ward but there is such a great team spirit among the staff, led by Jennifer. They were just wonderful and despite being so very busy, patient care was never compromised. They were always efficient, attentive, friendly and kind and made me feel safe and supported. They're like angels without wings!

Special mention should go to nurses Stevie and Kev at SHDU and in Ward 44 nurses Saskia, Bob, Emma, Jennifer, Selena and Beena, Health Care Workers Jackie and Chris, Dietician Alison, Cleaner Graham and Carol for her lovely cups of tea!

Overall, the standard of care was absolutely exemplary and I am so very grateful to such wonderful people. Even the food supplied in the hospital was generally very good, a huge step up from what I remember of hospital food 20 years ago.

Dear Langers

Thank you for your feedback, it is lovely hear about your recent hospital experience. What a worrying and difficult time it must have been for you and your family. It is good to note that the team supported you and provided you the care you were in need of. I will make sure Stevie and Kev see your kind feedback about SHDU, they will be delighted. Quality care is so important to us on SHDU, it is good to note that has been your experience. I am sure the other teams you mention will be equally delighted to see your feedback, which I will pass on also for you.

I do hope you are making a good recovery after your surgery. Wishing you and your family all the very best for the future, take care!

Kindest regards, Jamie Doyle, SHDU Clinical Nurse Manager.
