In September 2020 I was admitted to the HDU at QEUH for a really bad chest infection and asthma attack. I’m only now remembering to post this as I am covering compassion in university for nursing and this came back into my head. I received the horrible news that my dad had passed away whilst I was in hospital, and this was during Covid so there wasn’t any visitors allowed. I don’t remember what was said after this but I do recall a nurse named Coral, who came in and simply sat with me and held my hand while I cried, this has always stuck with me, the genuine care and compassion from her trying to make me feel a little less alone, and that’s the kind of nurse I want to be. I just wanted to post this to show that the little things the nurses do, do stick with patients forever and that I’m so thankful for Coral being there in that moment so that I wasn’t crying alone. Thank you so much
