"All the help I received after breaking my hip"

About: Lanarkshire Community Services / Community Nursing Service Lanarkshire Community Services / Physiotherapy Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance University Hospital Wishaw / Emergency Department University Hospital Wishaw / Trauma & orthopaedics

(as the patient),

I broke my hip in August (I tripped over my living room rug). I had to wait for three hours for an ambulance, the two ladies, the paramedics couldn't do enough to help. They took me to Wishaw general. I was quite fortunate because I only had to wait in the ambulance for around 25 mins while we waiting for me to get into the emergency department, it didn't bother me because I knew what the situation is like and I was being well looked after. Once in the emergency department I was given a bed very quickly. I was operated on the next day and given a new hip. Care in the hospital was very good, I couldn't fault the nurses. Unfortunately, I ended up with a very bad bed sore on my heal. The nurses were run off their feet but they couldn't do enough to help and were always very friendly every single day and had a great attitude to everything.

Because of the bad bed sore, I have had to have district nurses from the hunter health clinic in East Kilbride come and help me by redressing my foot twice a week. They are first class, they are so helpful, friendly and patient. I also have a physio therapist come out once a week. She couldn't be more helpful, she's great at explaining things to me and being quite strict with me which I really appreciate. The exercises have been helpful. I used to go swimming every morning before the accident and I've been able to start back again this week and the physio has been supportive of this, telling me to take it easy and do gently exercises in the pool.

Thank you for taking the time to share your lovely feedback with us here on CareOpinion. I am so pleased to read that the care you received through what must have been a stressful situation. What a time you have been through.
