"Hysterectomy, Query Cancerous Tumour"

About: Glasgow Royal Infirmary / General Surgery (wards 63, 64, 65, 66,& 67) Glasgow Royal Infirmary / Medical Oncology New Stobhill Hospital / Gynaecology Clinic

(as the patient),

Having been referred to Stobhill Gyn Outpatient by my GP for a (one stop clinic) appointment due to having a post menopause bleed. Where I had a consultation with a Dr Gebril and he carried out an examination, ultrasound. I was referred on for urgent MRI scan which I got the following week.

Days later was contacted by Dr Gebril to advise that a suspicious pelvic mass had been identified and this would be discussed at next MDT meeting. Again very quickly advised of outcome, urgent CT scan done and surgery following week. Admitted for surgery for a full hysterectomy, then discharged to Ward 56 In Glasgow Royal Infirmary.

My surgeon, Dr Burton, and his surgical team were excellent. Dr Burton  was very attentive, kind, informative and patient and I saw him 3 times out with ward rounds over the course of my 4 days as an inpatient. Dr Burton was very quick to reassure me that the surgery had gone well and that the worry of ovarian cancer was minimal, however pathology would have to confirm. That was a massive relief.

Daily ward rounds by the medical team every morning regardless of being the weekend and being reassured if any problems they would be available. Excellent nursing, healthcare assistants and domestic staff were all kind, caring, professional and attentive. Truly wonderful team of people being extraordinarily good at their jobs.

The expediency between the time of my first consult at Stobhill with Dr Gebril and the great team there and my subsequent surgery was excellent, roughly five weeks. In what was a very scary and emotional time for me and my family Dr Burton and all the Gyn Oncology team excelled in their care for me. To end my story, just eight days after my surgery, Dr Burton went to the trouble of contacting my son, who I was staying with to recuperate, having failed to get me on the phone to personally give the wonderful news that I did not have cancer and that my treatment was complete. Thank you to all involved.

Dear November56

Thank you for sharing your feedback on Care Opinion.

Thank you very much for commenting on how well the gynaecology team met your needs during your recent episode of care in Stobhill hospital and Glasgow Royal Infirmary,

I have shared your feedback with Dr Gebril, Dr Burton and all of the team. They are delighted to receive this. We are all very proud to be part of this team. Your comments and feedback are so very welcomed particularly for others waiting for surgery and who will obviously be rather anxious. Your post will hopefully provide some reassurance that they will be well looked after!

I am delighted for you that your treatment is complete and that your mass was not cancerous, that must be a great relief for you and your family.

I hope you are doing well at this time and recovering from your surgery.

Best wishes

Isabel Traynor
