About: Alton Community Hospital / Inwood Ward

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

I have spent a good number of weeks in Inwood Ward at Alton Community Hospital. I particularly asked to be referred here rather than Andover, where I had spent time for rehab earlier in the year. I have always been treated with the utmost respect apart from just one occasion.

The only frustrating (slightly) thing I can think of is often being left in the bath/cloakroom waiting for someone to come back. I do appreciate the staff can’t always just stand and wait and so therefore have to attend to someone else. But coming in and turning off the call bell but forgetting to return is the frustrating thing.

I would like to thank 99% of the whole team whether nursing, HCA, and of course rehab, which is of course the whole reason why I am here, so I can try my best with their help to be more able and confident with my walking. So many staff have gone over and beyond their normal duties for me.

I am the consultant for the Mid Hampshire Urgent Community Response service. Looking after individuals at home instead of hospital when it is safe to do so.

Thank you so much for taking the time to complete feedback for the Inwood ward. Your feedback helps us to know how we did and how we can change.

I had the pleasure of looking after you on the ward so its always good to put a name to a face. I am pleased that your rehabilitation is going well on the ward and that you chose to come to this ward area for your rehabilitation. I will make sure I pass this onto the team leader Corrin.

You have also been very honest about how a particular incident has made you feel and I thank you for that. I have been able to talk to Corrin about this and she assures me that she has been able to discuss this with you. You have helped her to understand how it made you feel.

Corrin reports that she feels the incident came down to clear communication and handover between staff and she has discussed this with the team. She has discussed with them that if you are in the shower room on your own, staff need to make sure that you have the ‘hand bell’ within reach as the pull cord does not easily stretch across. Corrin has also explained that she has discussed this with the whole team. I hope that this has helped to ensure that this does not happen again.

We really hope that you can continue to improve on the ward.
