I visited A&E three times within the span of a month after experiencing symptoms of myocarditis following the first dose of the Covid vaccine in May 2021. The first two visits, when I was sent to A&E by paramedics and an urgent care doctor respectively, were marked by overworked and frustrated staff who did not know what to do with me and were yelling at each other in earshot of patients in the acute ward above A&E. But the third visit, still due to the same symptoms, absolutely defies belief.
I had seen a private cardiologist on the same day who sent me straight back to Blackpool Victoria so I could be admitted due to persistently sky high blood pressure and tachycardia. Note, I have a genetic disorder making me prone to spontaneous arterial dissections anywhere in the body. But none of this mattered. The doctor on the acute ward who took me to a small room evidently never read the letter from the private cardiologist and told me off for attending A&E again -- as if I decided to come there for fun. When I started explaining that I had very high blood pressure, they interrupted me saying I could not know I have high blood pressure, because it causes no symptoms. I realised they had not read the letter and tried explaining that a friend had recommended a private cardiologist who I saw earlier that day. I did not get any further than "friend" before being berated about having a friend make medical diagnoses.
When I finally was able to explain, it did not change anything, because apparently this NHS doctor won't be told by a private doctor what to do and I most certainly do not need to be admitted. When I tried explaining my genetic condition, they confused it with another syndrome, which mostly causes issues with the aorta, whereas my condition can affect any artery. When I tried explaining that I also have a platelet disorder, I did not get further than "platelet", before being interrupted again and told my platelet count (completely different test!) was fine and I did not have a platelet disorder. Apparently they know more than a professor of haematology.
In the end I just cried and asked them to please just help me, because I still had symptoms a month after the vaccine. I was still not admitted as an inpatient, but got put in a chair overnight to trial a blood pressure medication which did nothing but give me a rash and a headache -- which was explained away by the nurse as a symptom of high blood pressure. Not sure if the adverse reaction was passed on to the doctor, but when I was sent home in the early morning hours, the nurse gave me a different medication to take at home at the orders of the same doctor, without any supervision despite my symptoms and being at high risk of complications due to my genetic disorder.
So back to the cardiologist who was appalled by my care, or lack thereof. For the past year, I have been back and forth between NHS care and private care due to ongoing symptoms, which may have been prevented had I received prompt and appropriate care from the very beginning.
