My mum was admitted to ward 6, Wishaw General Hospital in August with severe pain. She was in that ward for 23 days during which time she received numerous tests and investigations. Her health problems gave cause for concern daily and almost every day the staff had a new issue to focus on.
My mum was a very appreciative person and tried not to bother the staff, however they recognised this and always asked after her needs.
She and her family were kept fully informed by all staff involved, doctors, nurses, specialists, etc, and her thoughts and wishes always listened to.
Unfortunately my mum passed away in the ward with her family beside her throughout.
The staff showed nothing but kindness, care and compassion as well as their skills in caring for my mum and treated her like a member of their own family. They also showed this to us, the family, too, going out if their way to make us comfortable during our stay.
The nurses met her needs, big and small, even finding ice cream and ice lollies to aid her comfort, paying for them too themselves at times.
When she passed away, they set up very peaceful environment and allowed us as much time as we needed, my dad word's were she was lovely.
Obviously this was the most difficult time and although our mum couldn't get better, all the staff made it as easy as possible. We look back on her care with only positive thoughts.
The staff didn't only do their job, they went beyond that and it seemed they were just that lovely kind of professionals.
I apologise for not writing sooner.
