This week my husband was in the Surgical Short Stay Unit. Thank goodness it was for a short stay only.
He is disabled so needs help with personal care. During his stay in this unit his personal care was ignored. He also has pressure wounds, one of which has been the seat of severe infections including sepsis. His wound dressings were also ignored.
When he was discharged and came home I was very disappointed to see the results of this lack of care: one wound dressing was not clean and was falling off, which could have allowed more infection to enter the wound and his skin showed redness.
I can only assume that either the staff are unaware of the importance of good hygiene and wound care, or they are aware and ignore it.
And it seems they obviously totally ignore the dignity of their patients that they do not even help with basic personal care.
