I took my son for winter vaccines at ocean terminal, Edinburgh. I was given the following incorrect information by the person administering his vaccines;
My son missed his school flu vaccine, I was told a 2nd round of flu vaccines always takes place in schools as a mop up session & that he didn’t need to have a flu vaccine with his covid vaccine. I insisted he got both as dad is immunocompromised. I checked NHS online which indicates that if you miss a school vaccine, you need to contact your local health board. It doesn’t advise to wait for a school mop up session.
I mentioned my 2nd son had covid 4 weeks ago, & was told he would have to wait 12 weeks for a vaccine. This is incorrect for children who live with an immunocompromised person. They should wait 4 weeks, not 12.
I have encountered errors in the way those living with an immunocompromised person are dealt with in all phases of vaccination in relation to eligibility. I’ve encountered it on the phone and in person at vaccine centres.
I feel angry because many are surely being denied vaccines because of misinformation. I’m also angry at how consistent this misinformation is given out for this category.
