"Concerned about waiting times"

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Neurosurgery (Ward 64 – 66)

(as the patient),

Today I have received a letter from the Neurology clinic. My surprise was when checked the letter, and it's stated when the appointment will be. It's a waiting time of 9 months! I thought that my appointment would be urgent as I have a serious condition that's affecting my life.

In addition, it will be just only telephone appointment!

I thought I will get additional tests to assess my health issue.

I'm not sure what to do to speed up the appointment with the Doctor Specialist from the Neurology department?

I'm feeling that the service is very poor! It's not possible, How it can be possible that waiting time for telephone appointment is in 9 months? What am I suppose to do next? I feel that's very ridiculous and impossible to understand personally!

I'm really concerned about NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde outpatient waiting times!

Dear Peter-P22,

I am sorry to hear that you have concerns regarding the waiting times for Neurology services. Pressures upon waiting lists are significant at present although we are working hard to improve this picture. Each referral is prioritised based upon clinical need, If your condition has changed, your GP can provide us with an updated referral for reassessment by our consultant team.

If you would wish to contact us directly, we would be happy to look into things for you. I can be contacted at eilidh.gallagher@ggc.scot.nhs.uk.

Many thanks,

Eilidh Gallagher,
Clinical Service Manager, Neurology
