"The heating wasn't working"

About: University Hospital Hairmyres / Clinical haematology

(as the patient),

Turned up for blood transfusions, noticed that ward was rather cold. Upon asking was told heating wasn't working so for the rest of the day watched highly talented people trying to keep patients warm and comfortable and continue treating us. Why was someone in authority not there to get some form of heating organised instead of leaving the nursing team to cope? NOT happy at all

Dear DIGIT1

I would like to sincerely apologise that the ward was cold and that there were problems with the heating on the day that you attended for a blood transfusion. I would like to assure you that as soon as this was escalated to myself (late morning), the senior estates team were involved and I was assured the situation was rectified promptly.

I totally agree that the senior team need to manage difficult situations and nursing staff are not expected to cope alone. I encourage all team members to escalate issues in a timely manner so that senior staff can be involved. I apologise if there was a delay in escalation as staff were busy attending to patient's needs.

I will share this situation with wider teams for learning.

Thank you again

Kind regards

Lise
