"No care or respect for me"

About: General Practices in Grampian

(as the patient),

I was seen by a health practitioner at the end of October, and I was absolutely appalled by the service I received. There was no level of care, the staff member that I saw was rude and made me feel as if I was a burden. I was being seen as I had a lot of pain in my throat, they shoved a lolly stick around my mouth and was very rough with me. They knocked my teeth and this was sore, there was no apology.

They were very rude and abrupt when they spoke to me. They also wished to sound my chest, so they moved my clothing away and my back bra strap without asking if this was okay. This made me feel uncomfortable further.

The whole appointment was a disaster, and the practitioner made me feel silly and as if I was completely wasting their time. I wish I had said something at the time, but I was just so shocked by what I had experienced. I left my appointment feeling even worse.

In my view, the practitioner that I had seen certainly has no understanding of NHS values. They had no care or respect for me, and certainly no compassion.

Dear woody99,

All appointments should be delivered with kindness and compassion and I’m sorry this wasn’t your experience - leaving you feeling like a burden. This shouldn’t have happened and I think it’s important the GP Practice are made aware.

Most of the GP Practices in Grampian are independent contractors, with a separate feedback and complaints system and the best option would be for you to share your concerns with the Practice Manager directly. GP practices are not currently registered to respond to feedback through the Care Opinion system and don’t routinely access the feedback received shared.

I know contacting the practice directly means you would need to let them know who you are and not everyone feels comfortable doing this. If you would prefer I can forward your feedback on your behalf. To do this you would need to forward the name of the practice to me, either via email: kirsten.dickson@nhs.scot, or by telephone/text: 07885720267.

You can also contact the Patient Advice and Support Service (PASS) for support with sharing your concerns with your GP practice. PASS are an independent service offering free and confidential advice about NHS healthcare and they can be contacted on 0800 917 2127 or for more information please go to www.patientadvicescotland.org.uk

I’m sorry I can’t be of more help.

Take care,

Kirsten
