"Bad experience of A&E"

About: Royal Blackburn Hospital

Anything else?

Presented to A&E after a RTA with severe pain in the knee. Unable to weight bear, knee buckling and pain around the fibula head. Waited four hours to be seen which to be fair was expected on a Friday night. Told the doctor my symptoms and that I had suffered ligament damage and a fractured tibia and fibula in the past and the symptoms felt the same. Sent for a X ray of tibia which was clear, however I suggested a ct scan to rule out Proximal fibula and lateral ligament damage as this would show up clearer on a ct scan. Was told there was no need it was just a sprain. Not offered any crutches and just opiate pain killers and to try weight bearing as pain allows. Two weeks later and a visit to fracture clinic at Royal Bolton ordered by my gp, a MRI scan and x ray revealed a proximal fibula fracture, lateral, anterior and medial ligament tears. Full leg cast put on by Bolton for four weeks and physio for 6 weeks. Aswell as rest and partial weight bearing for a further month. Three month recovery for a misdiagnoses by Royal Blackburn A&E. Not acceptable.
