"Extremely disappointed by my stay at Worcester Royal Hospital"

About: Worcestershire Royal Hospital / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

I was a patient on Lavender gynae ward having surgery.

It was chaos when I arrived at 7. 40am because they had 'bigwigs' visiting as one nurse put it, so everything was being done to the 'book.' Then I heard some computer information was unavailable so they didn't have my full records. The surgeon had to hand write a consent form for me to sign.

After the 'bigwigs' had been, the ward was like a no go zone. We saw no nurses or staff for over an hour. 1 lady in the ward had recently had serious surgery and was bed bound. Nobody came to check she was ok or if she needed anything. It was like we didn't exist. It carried on like that for the rest of the day. I was promised food and a drink as I hadn't eaten since 8pm the night before but I was given nothing until 6pm when sandwiches were served (which were very dry and stale tasting).

The lack of staff was ridiculous. I never once saw the ward cleaned or the adjoining bathrooms. I am extremely disappointed by my stay at Worcester and would not want to come to this hospital again. I didn't even get a visit by my doctor before I was discharged. This resulted in no notes being available for my own GP so I couldn't get a sick note. The nurse discharging me gave me the wrong sick note so I had to telephone the next day to request another one. I wasn't even told what procedure had been done to me.

We are extremely sorry to read about your recent experience whilst an inpatient at Worcestershire Royal Hospital. The care your received falls far short of the high standard of nursing care we aim to deliver to all our patients.

I would very much the opportunity to discuss this with you and investigate your claims where appropriate. Please contact me on 01903 733345 Patti Paine, Head of Midwifery & Gynaecology
