My first baby was born at 29 weeks gestation (almost 3 months early) and was in SCBU in Pinderfields for five weeks and then in Dewsbury hospital for another week as we were moved to be nearer home. The doctors, ward sisters, specialist nurses and nursery nurses / healthcare workers were all incredible. Not only were they amazing in the way the cared and monitored our little miracle but their support of me and his dad was second to none. We will forever be in your debt.
The care I received from community based staff however has been disgraceful. Midwifery discharged me two days after the birth of my baby. They didn't do a post natal check and they didn't see how I was doing after the shock of delivering my first baby so early and not knowing whether he would survive or not. Between being discharged by midwifery services into 'Health Visiting Team,' I waited 13 weeks. My baby was 13 weeks old and had been home seven weeks despite me and my husband ringing up to chase them. As a family we have felt very unsupported by community staff which is surprising especially given my history of depression and history of familial post-natal depression. We were simply left to figure things out unassisted.
