Amazing maternity unit. This was my 2nd child with my 1st being born in the old maternity unit & what a complete difference. The new unit is like a hotel, with your own bathroom (as opposed to a shared toilet & shower). The midwifery led unit is so relaxed & after giving birth they tend to leave you to, so that you & your partner can have some time alone with the baby. If this was your 1st, I imagine that it could seem like you were being abandoned, but that isn't the intention. It's just designed to be so relaxed. There isn't any rush to be sent home until you are ready. Tea, coffee and food is there for you & your partner. I loved it there, was just such a nice, relaxing birth experience. Couldn't have asked for a better midwife and service.

So pleased to hear how well it went for you and your new baby - how you described the service is exactly that our staff set out to design. New buildings are great, but if you don't also take the chance to change the service too so it's better for those whose experience count the most, then it's something of a wasted opportunity. Our new maternity unit has seen big changes - massive improvement in positive ratings from mothers, with not surprisingly complaints falling away dramatically. And a service that is £1 million less expensive to run - so good for taxpayers too! So many thanks for your feedback, which we will make sure reaches the team, and may we wish you and your new, bigger family all the best for the future.
