Having found a red patch/spot on the areola area of my left breast I went immediately to my GP who referred me on an urgent 2 week wait appointment with KGH Trust Breast Clinic at the Treatment Centre. I telephoned the same day after leaving my GP and was given an appointment at the Breast Clinic exactly 1 week later. On arrival at the Treatment Centre, with my Son as my support, we were asked to take a seat and within a few minutes were taken through to an examination room. The lovely nurse asked me to undress and put on a cape and explained that the consultant would be along in a minute. When he came in he introduced himself and asked me questions about my symptoms and how long I had had them etc. including any family history. He examined me thoroughly and afterwards explained that he felt it was just a cyst that would disappear in time but he would like me to have a mammogram as it was more than a year since my last one when I was 51 years old, just to make sure. We were taken through to a waiting area that was suitable for males to be present, as they also have a women only area, The mammogram technician came to fetch me and this was carried out within a few minutes with only minor discomfort. In just over an hour from our arrival I was dressed and we were taken through to a room to discuss the mammogram findings with my consultant. He said I had nothing to worry about and the mammogram findings were clear. Both William, my Son and I were very relieved and thanked him before we left. I would like to add that if anyone has any concerns about attending the Breast Clinic I found the service and professionalism excellent. Kettering NHS Trust Breast Clinic should be commended on the swift free service that is provided, within a week of seeing my GP I had seen a Breast Surgeon who had carried out the necessary tests and personally given me the results! how amazing is that and how lucky for me that it was not a serious problem, however, I am sure that the service would have been brilliant if I had needed more investigation or surgery. Thank you to the consultant and their wonderful team at the Treatment Centre for the excellent speedy one stop clinic you provide to us all in the area at a time when we feel vulnerable.
