My waters broke in the afternoon, and I went to the hospital to be checked out. Staff were fairly quick at doing this & gave me lots of information on what to do when my contraptions started. I was also booked in for a induction the following morning in case they hadn't started by then, to reduce the risk of infection. I was then sent home to wait.
Once contractions had started they progressed very quickly, possibly a bit too quickly as at home, in the car, hospital carpark and lift, I had strong urges to push. I was led straight to a delivery suite, mats were laid on floor & midwife was very supportive as I gave birth all within about a min of arriving.
The atmosphere was relaxed, there was no rushing or pressure to do anything. If this was your first it could possible feel like you were being abandoned but that is not the intention, it is supposed to be relaxing.
We had time just me, my husband and baby to spend together. No pressure to leave, we ended up staying the night all together in one room. Husband didn't have to leave as it wasn't visiting hours, unlike the old unit. My midwife was lovely.
Just a really wonderful birthing experience.
