"delays in treatment for spinal problem"

About: Raigmore Hospital / Trauma & orthopaedics

(as the patient),

I am currently in severe pain which makes it very difficult for me to walk, I was initially told that I had arthritis in my hip. This diagnosis was wrong. There is nothing wrong with my hip- the problem is in my lower spine and a nerve being affected by this condition.

I was recommended to go to an osteopath and have had four sessions to date. I am still in pain. I have been on the physiotherapy waiting list for one month but have been told that I might have to wait another month. Today I asked for an appointment with a doctor. The earliest appointment available two weeks away. On this showing the NHS is practically useless.

Dear still hobbling

It has just been pointed out to me that we did not reply to your posting. I am so sorry about this. I am responsible for overseeing all our timely responses and so I want to personally apologise. Given the nature of your posting I can only imagine that this will have further compounded your sense of NHS being "useless".

But if you think it would help how about you give me a call and I can look into any outstanding matters. I do hope that you have been seen by a physiotherapist and a doctor and you are not in such severe pain. If things haven't improved then we will need to see how we can help.
