"I liked the doctors, physios, ..."

About: Whipps Cross University Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

I liked the doctors, physios, cheerfulness of porters and the one or two nurses who did all the work and managed to be up beat at the same time.

What could be improved

Infection control, not one nurse or doctor or domestic staff actually washed their hands or used the alcohol rub provided when dealing with me. I did not feel I could ask them to use this as some of the nurses and domestic staff were unfriendly if you asked them anything.

Being in control of your treatment, I never knew what was happening next even though I asked, I was just told that I would have my operation when they were ready. On actually managing to speak to a doctor I got a more up front answer.

There needs to be more interaction between doctors and nursing staff for each patient, with a written plan for each patient, with the patient being informed of their treatment and expectations so we are all on the same page.

It took me 2 days and many tears to get an X-ray done so that I could get discharged and allow someone else in need to have my bed.

More nursing staff needed, as they were always short staffed during my stay.
