I have never had to be admitted into hospital before so I don't know what I was expecting... In February I went to my gp asi had started to get intermittent stabbing pains under my right rib. At the time I was taking painkillers and being asked to wait months at a time for tests to be done. Whilst waiting for my ultrasound results (due in 2 weeks) I collapsed at home suddenly with excruciating pain that felt like someone was twisting my insides as if wringing out a wet dishcloth. I got to a &e where I was sent to minors with a 4 hour wait and coud barely stand when the triage nurse took a look at me writhing in pain in the hallway and submitted to majors. I was given morphine and a surgeon checked me over and suspected gallstones. They checked my ultrasound and found nothing and decided to keep me in overnight. The following morning this other surgeon consultant who had literally zero interpersonal skills says "well we thought it was gallstones and it's not so go home" at the time I had been awake for 36 hours was exhausted and spaced out on painkillers at alone so once my fiancé found out he asked to speak to him again to get the facts clear and he said he would send me for a ct scan in a month! I ended up staying another night and during that time I was violently sick and had trouble peeing. When I saw this horrible consultant again I explained what had happened and none of the nurses had noted in my file. They then tested me 3 times for UTI before discharging me with notes that basically said I had come in with stomach pain caused by the UTI and would be going for endoscopy in 6-8 weeks! So basically I gained a UTI out of this experience and nothing more. I have zero faith in the nhs and can only hope I never have to go to hospital or even deal with that horrible man again. I am left fearing this will happen to me again knowing I would have to go back to that place.

Sometimes it is not possible to reach a diagnosis of the cause of a problem like this, and offer prompt, effective treatment other than painkillers.
