"Post natal care needs to be improved"

About: Queen Charlotte's Hospital

Anything else?

Had an elective C-section at QC and overall it was a good experience. Calm, friendly doctors who reassured me and my partner every step of the way and who delivered a beautiful, healthy girl with no problems at all. However the post natal care at this hospital leaves a lot to be desired. We were left on the recovery ward for about 12 hours while the staff tried to find me a bed on the post natal ward. The second night in hospital was chaotic - one midwife looking after nearly 50 women and a very rude and unkind nurse who told me off for pressing the call button (despite the fact that I could barely walk unaided due to pain and swelling). I was told by this deeply unpleasant woman that the call button was only for emergencies (despite the fact that the midwife on duty had told me to press it for anything I needed) and that with 46 other women to look after, she couldn't be running around the ward every time someone pressed a button. I was having trouble breastfeeding and with my baby screaming the ward down at 3am, I was desperate for some formula just to try to get her to sleep. Needless to say, the last thing I needed was a lecture from this woman. I appreciate that staff have a lot to do but I would strongly suggest that night staff are better trained to deal more delicately with patients.
