My 2 yr old daughter developed a serious infection. After calling NHS direct and being immediately seen by the GP we were referred to the Child Assessment Unit at East Surry Hospital. We were seen promptly, she was monitored, and the appropriate tests were done. We were then admitted to Outwood within 5-6 hours of arriving. My daughter was on Outwood for 5 nights and, although it was a stressful time, we thought the staff were excellent and her treatment good. My daughter wasn't keen on having medical attention and the nurses in particular were quick, efficient, and sympathetic about what they had to do. A minor complaint was that we had such little time to speak with the doctors, but do appreciate that their time is under pressure. The playroom at Outwood was a nice place for us to go to when she was feeling better and our cubicle got boring. The play staff were lovely, bringing her toys at the bedside when she was first admitted and bed-bound. The cupboard of DVDs was much appreciated too. People complain about the NHS, but this experience proved to me that the system (from NHS direct to GP to hospital) worked brilliantly and my daughters condition was treated seriously and quickly. Thank you to everyone involved. Mabel's Mum.
