"Excellent Care"

About: Royal Stoke University Hospital

Anything else?

My father was admitted to A&E in early March due to a fall at home. We arrived at A&E at 7am and my father was seen straight away. I followed the ambulance and my father was being seen in the short time I parked up and walked into the reception. He was in the triage bay for say 15mins then transferred to another section in his own bay. From start to when he was transferred to a ward was only about 3 hrs. Anyway to cut a long story short my dad eventually ended up on ward 123. My father ended up being diagnosed with a large blood clot and following investigations they found advanced liver cancer. The staff were absolutely lovely and nothing was too much trouble. My dad's care was exceptional and I could not have wished for him to be any better cared for. The only thing I can complain about is that there is not enough staff. The ones working on ward 123 are brilliant but they are only human and they are far too busy. Some days they didn't manage to have any breaks and that isn't right. My sister and me went every day to do the personal care for my dad as the nurses are far too busy attending to the necessary jobs not seeing if anyone bed bound needs a drink etc. It is not their fault, they are fantastic and do everything they can and beyond but they need help. Due to his condition my dad died at the end of March but I would like to say the service at the hospital was exceptional from the care on ward 123 to the help from the bereavement staff to the parking attendant at the entrance to the main building. I would also point out that I have been attending UHNS for the past 22 years regarding my own health and I have always found it to be an excellent hospital.
