"Huyton Walk In Centre: I believe I received excellent care with kindness."

About: Knowsley NHS Walk-in Centre, Huyton

(as the patient),

I had a very bad fractured ankle in 2004, was hospitalised and needed surgery. Two screws put in one side of the ankle, which were later removed. On the other side three pins had been inserted which have been left in.

Just before Christmas I went visiting friends with presents. It was raining heavily and I wore a pair of ankle boots and walked to the visits. The boot on the right foot rubbed the flesh around the pins raw, which subsequently became infected and very swollen from the ankle to the knee. It was also very hot.

I was frightened and went to the walk in centre local to my home. I did have to wait for an hour for treatment, but I was expecting this. I saw the fringe nurse then two other nurses who treated the ankle and put on an iodine dressing.

It was Saturday, and I was asked to come back on the Monday. I also received an antibiotic prescription if it deteriorated.

On the Monday swelling had subsided somewhat. I was discharged in the same dressing and more antibiotic.

I believe I received excellent care with kindness.
