What I liked

I specifically chose to visit the A&E department of UCH as I had seen that the hospital had been rated very highly by patients. I was suffering from a badly infected open wound.

Reception was friendly, efficient and clean. Didn't have to wait long.

I was seen by a doctor who knew what he was doing and did relevant tests and escalation to tropical medicine expert very quickly. He also attempted to reduce my wait for seeing the District Nurse in my own borough for wound dressing.

The expert gave excellent advice, was generous with his time and left me feeling confident that I was receiving the best treatment. He also provided his contact details in case of deteriorating condition and wrote a letter to the District Nurse on my behalf.

I was asked appropriately if I minded a student observing. I felt secure, comfortable and confident in the hands of the medical staff.

The main hospital is new, clean and a really nice place to be.... if you have to be in hospital that is..

What could be improved

On visiting the Pharmacy of the main hospital I was unable to buy over the counter pain killers or Hydrogen Peroxide for wound cleaning: as they only offer prescription service.
